I’m hoping to make your ordering process simpler by answering a few questions before they arise.

There are two basic types of signboards we offer for sale on this site. One is of 3-D carved red cedar with which most folk are quite familiar and the other 2-D carved Hi Density Polyethylene.

The Red Cedar we use is of the highest quality with vertical grain. We use 5/4 material which ends up approximately 1” thick in the finished signboard. Graphics are hand painted with solid pigment acrylics. Finally, they are given three coats of clear gloss finish for presentation. We recommend you allow this to weather off to a natural, rustic, silvery gray. 3-D carving simply means we can do carving of greater detail and smaller lettering can be achieved although we do not advise too much lettering.

Hi Density Polyethylene (Polycarve) is a very durable, almost waxy feeling material which is laminated in three layers. Two thin layers compose the outer (front and back) cover in one color and the thick center layer is of a contrasting color. We use ½” total thickness material. We stock Brown with a white core, beige with a green core and Green with a beige core. Polycarve will only allow for 2-D carving and the smallest carving tool we can use is 1/16th “ diameter. Thus, small graphics and lettering less than
3/4th “ high are not possible at this time. Graphics will be somewhat more rounded off than the images presented on your proof. Here are a few examples.
 

A few pointers for online proofing:
If your lettering or graphics extend beyond the edge of the sign or come in too small for the sign face, just change the font size as needed. You can keep pointing and clicking till it draws in where you want it. Remember the element will draw from the lower left corner of where you point and click. Dial up connections…please be patient with redraws. You will see a note reading, “Axon Hillock will correct minor positioning and sizing.” For example: If your last name, first names or clipart comes in too small or large but there is no in between size…we will correct that at no additional charge unless you check the “Please don’t” box.

Major changes such as a special shape board (possible shape cutting fee), arched lettering, a clipart image we do not offer… etc. will still incur a custom layout fee of $15.
